DTN News - BATTLE FOR TRIPOLI IN IMAGES: People Celebrate Capture In Tripoli Of Gadhafi's Son, Seif al-Islam
(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - August 22, 2011: People celebrate the capture in Tripoli of Moammar Gadhafi's son and one-time heir apparent, Seif al-Islam, at the rebel-held town of Benghazi, Libya, early Monday, Aug. 22, 2011. Libyan rebels raced into Tripoli in a lightning advance Sunday that met little resistance as Moammar Gadhafi's defenders melted away and his 40-year rule appeared to rapidly crumble.
A portrait of Libyan leader Moamer Gadhafi and copies of his green book are set on fire by demonstrators during a protest outside the Libyan embassy in Ankara on August 22, 2011 as Libyan rebels entered the heart of Tripoli in a final drive to oust Gadhafi.
Libyan opposition groups hauled down the flag of Gadhafi's regime at the embassy and flew the rebel flag instead. The new flag belongs to Libya's National Transitional Council, which was recognized in July by Turkey as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people.
